Population Distribution in China and the UK Essay Example
Population Distribution in China and the UK Essay In China, the population is concentrated along the coast of China. The population densities are at least twenty five people per kmà ² and in some areas, greater than one thousand people per kmà ². In the United Kingdom, the population is concentrated in two areas, the south east of the UK, London, and the lower central area of the UK which is the Manchester and Birmingham area. The population density of these areas ranges from three hundred and fifty to six hundred people and over per kmà ².China is heavily populated in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai, which are all located on Chinaââ¬â¢s coast. The areas mentioned above all have a booming economy which have attracted investors and have created more jobs. These new people chose to live close to their jobsite which is most likely in the mentioned cities which have then caused the dense population density in China. Trade is another factor because the ports in China are among the largest ports in the world for both cargo volume an d container traffic. This trading opportunity has been taken advantage of by many people thus creating a ââ¬Å"Chain Reactionâ⬠which is creating more shipping and transport companies which creates more jobs and in turn causes more people to flock to the cities. The rainfall also is greater in the heavily populated areas thus creating more water for consumers and for agricultural lands. The mountainous areas are sparsely populated, in most cases because of little rainfall, extreme weather, slow economy, less job opportunities, hardly any transportation and little resources. In the far north west of China, there is some average to dense population where numbers ranging from twenty five to nine hundred and ninety nine people per kmà ². This is because of the rivers from the nearby mountains creating a water supply and the rainfall is sufficient. Also the lands in this area are close to flat land making transportation an ease.In the United Kingdom, the south eastern coast is one out of the two most populated areas is London. London was the biggest city from 1831 to 1925. London, at this time was one of the most developed cities of that era which incited immigration for either a better standard of life or better job opportunities. As time passed the immigrants began reproducing and boosting the population density. Also, Londonââ¬â¢s port is among the biggest ports of the world which encourages more imports and exports which increases the UKââ¬â¢s economy which then creates the ââ¬Å"Chain Reactionâ⬠mentioned above. Moving to Manchester and Birmingham, this area is very historic area also so it attracts many tourists who eventually migrate to this part of the UK. Here also has a thriving economy which originates from trade, tourism and resources. The thriving economy will also create the ââ¬Å"Chain Reactionâ⬠Moving further north of the UK, there is a sparse density of people in these areas, mainly because these areas are mountainous. In th e mountains, limited types of crops and animals can be grown and reared because of the weather. The weather is very harsh and temperatures are very low. Transport is not easily accessible form mountainous areas thus causing not very livable conditions for people residing here.I think that in both countries, the physical factors are more important because the countries both have coastal features which some of the biggest ports in the world are built. Trade plays a significant role in both countriesââ¬â¢ economy which causes the ââ¬Å"Chain Reactionâ⬠mention earlier, and a better standard of living thus increasing the population densities in the cities. Dense cities such as London are built right along the river Thames which also sparks opportunities for settlements being made. Sparse areas are usually sparse because of the unlivable conditions due to rainfall, mountains and temperature.

Our Friends, Ourselves Essays - Friendship, Scout Prayer
Our Friends, Ourselves In the reading Our friends, ourselves by Steve Duck he tells us that there are four rules that characterize friend ship. The rules are to hold a conversation, not to disclose confidences to other people, what I think is important and to refrain from public criticism, and to repay debts and favors. These rules allow friends to be open, helpful, trusting, affectionate, reliable, respect our privacy and us and will do favors for us and return the favors that we do for them. The reality of functions one of the items listed that really stuck out was that we need friends to keep us emotionally stable. My own personal experience is when both my grandfathers were very ill. One had a heart attack and had to have bypass surgery and the other had to have his throat cancer removed. My best friend, who just happens to also be my boyfriend, was there to not only support and comfort me but to also comfort my family. It was hard on us because we were down here, my dad was in Rhode Island, and all this was going on in Pennsylvania. All we could do was wait by the phone. Eric, my boyfriend, told us everything would be all right. He kept us from thinking about it in different ways. And of course he was right and both of my grandfathers are still alive and kicking today. The relationship between friendship networks is: we need friends to keep us mentally healthy. It is important to find ways of keeping and gaining friends. We also have to recgonize the different needs that each friendship has for us. I agree with this claim because people who do not have a lot of friends or any at all, always seem to be depressed and exclude themselves from society. Like that video that we watched in class where that little boy died of loneliness. I really think that friends affect that type of situation. Private language, intimate relationships, and personal idioms have a function of being private understandings. Friendships and cultures are similar, because in different cultures they use different languages or different dialects. Friendships have routine behaviors it is more important for daily life in cultures. This article has shown the importance to have friends. True friends are always there for you through thick and thin as you should be for them. Speech and Communications

lab report on essays
lab report on essays Objective: To detect the amount of particular matter collected from the smoker's end of a cigarette and the amount of second hand smoke released Materials and Methods/Procedures: Two each of a 250 ml filter flask, a piece of filter paper, a 1-hole rubber stopper, glass tubing, a glass funnel and rubber tubing were assembled as required, and the filter flask was attached to a water aspirator. The filter papers were removed, weighed to the nearest 0.001 g, and replaced on the apparatus. A non-filtered cigarette was inserted into the funnel, which was then clamped pointing up. A second funnel was clamped approximately a half inch above the cigarette funnel in order to collect the second hand smoke in the room, and enough space was allowed between the funnels to allow air and catch all of the smoke. The water aspirators were turned on, the cigarette was lit, and the aspirators were adjusted so that the cigarette burned over a period of 3-5 minutes. After the cigarette burned down to the last centimeter, the aspirators were turned off, the cigarette was removed and the filter papers were removed and weighed. The initial weight of the filter paper was subtracted from the final weight. The solids collected from the second hand smoke funnel were divided by the solids collected for the smoker's funnel, and multiplied by 100 to obtain the percent of solids in room smoke. The procedure was repeated with a filtered cigarette and the Results: In the non-filtered cigarette experiment, the initial filter paper weight of the smoker's flask was .223g, while the paper of the room flask weighed .234g. After collecting solids, the weight of the smoker's flask paper was .231g and the room flask paper weighed .241g. The weight of the solids collected were: smoker's flask-.008g, and room flask-.007g. Free Essays on Memory And Me
There are only a few techniques that help my memory. Most of the time I prefer to study over material for a certain amount of time with a friend. Other times, I will utilize flashcards in order to memorize the word, phrase or definition needed. Reading over material more than once also helps me. All of these things come in handy when I am trying to study for any subject. I sometimes find that I will use certain methods of memorizing that help me more for that specific subject. When I study over material with friends, it is so both of us can benefit. As they say, ââ¬Å"you learn while trying to teach it to someone elseâ⬠, so that is the exact methodology we try to follow. I would read the material, and then quiz my friend with random questions about it. Then, he/she would do the same. The process does take some time because we both have to read the material then quiz each other on it, but in the long run it helps us both in memorizing the data. My favorite form of memorization is using flash cards. The purpose of using flash cards is the repetition of the process. When I study using flash cards I read the definitions of the terms or phrases that I am trying to memorize, and then I try to remember the term or phrase that they go with. I repeat this system over and over again until finally I can go through all of the terms and respond with the proper definition. This form of memorization is my favorite because I can either do it alone, or have a partner to assist me. No matter how many times Iââ¬â¢ve used other methods to help me memorize or study, flash cards have always worked. Another method that I do not practice too often is reading materials over again in order to let them sink in. This is not the same as the repetition of the flash cards, because this one has to do with longer materials such as books or long example essays. Time provided I would go over the book or long example essay more than once, but most of the time it can b... Learning experience of international students Essay - 1
Learning experience of international students - Essay Example In a survey conducted in 2010, 8 out of every ten international students were satisfied with the experience of studying in the UK (Ripmeester, & Pollock, 2011, p.4). The higher education administrators have successfully managed a wide range of international studentsââ¬â¢ expectations. One of the primary strategies adopted by the UK to favor international students in the country is the Prime Ministerââ¬â¢s Initiative for International Education that was launched in 1999. (Ripmeester, & Pollock, 2011, p.6) The strategy aimed to increase the number of international students studying in the UK by checking on the quality of education for this group of students. The program has led to the establishment of different academic resources that the staff and students in institutions of higher education can rely upon. One of the academic strategies that favor international students in the UK is the inclusivity initiative. The initiative aims to provide a favorable learning environment for both the international students and other students. The institutions have also continuously engaged with the students by seeking to use their feedback in academic improvement. The international students in the country are represented in different student engagement activities that ensure that the existing academic policies accommodate the needs of foreigners in the country. Another strategic initiative by the UK higher education program is the guarantee that the information provided to the students in all academic levels is accessible, accurate, and clear across all the institutions. Clear explanation is also adopted in the delivery of courses where the use of technical terminology is unavoidable. The university and college staff in the UK has access to development and training opportunities that help them recognize, understand, and meet the needs of international students. The instructors are made to understand that they deal with a diverse global

Causes and effects of alcoholism Research Paper
Causes and effects of alcoholism - Research Paper Example Research has failed to reach consensus on the causes of alcohol abuse, but one cause due to which individuals become addicted to alcohol is that those who consume alcohol for a very long period of time become mentally dependant on it and if they try to stop consumption of alcohol they experience withdrawal symptoms and this dependence is recognized as one of the causes of alcoholism. There are other causes that may cause alcoholism, but research has failed to reach consensus on these causes. One of these causes is genetic factors that may result in alcoholism. This means that certain individuals might be born with certain characteristics that may increase the risk of these individuals becoming involved in the act of alcohol abuse. Genetic factors may explain alcoholism among certain percentage of population, but it fails to explain the same behavior in various other populations. According to Kearney, genetic factors are one of the reasons due to which individuals abuse alcohol and th e researcher even states that individuals belonging to families in which alcohol abuse was quite prevalent were at a higher risk of around three to four times to abuse alcohol (Kearney, 2011, p.257). Another possible cause of dependence on alcohol is the changes in an individualââ¬â¢s cognitive chemical balances due to continuous consumption of alcohol over a longer period of time. Individuals who try to stop consumption of alcohol may experience decline in the chemical levels of norepinephrine and due to this the individual may experience higher levels of blood pressure as well as increase in heart rate and in order to counter this effect, the individual may resort to drinking higher levels of alcoholic drinks. A research was conducted by Hawley, in which the researchers identified that the levels of cerebrospinal fluid norepinephrine were higher among those who were trying to quit their addiction of alcohol consumption (Hawley, 1981). Business Communications Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 3
Business Communications - Essay Example In case you choose to confirm, the orientation starts from Monday, 6th August 2012 at 9.00 am, which is also your hire date. I will contact Mr. Smith by first emailing him, after which I will give him a call to request for an in-person meeting. The email will be a follow up of the offer letter. In the email, I will briefly indicate the contents of the employment offer letter, such as the salary, the benefits, and the company policies. Additionally, I will give a brief description of the format of filling the documents enclosed to the offer letter. I will also inform him of his duties in case he decides to take the job offer. In addition, I will give him the contact details he can use in case he needs clarification of any data. I will offer details regarding the location of our offices and inform him of the stating date and time for orientation, which will also be your hire date. Another aspect that I would include in the email is the name of a Smithââ¬â¢s superior and how he can get into contact with him if need be.
