The process does take some time because we both have to read the material then quiz each other on it, but in the long run it helps us both in memorizing the data. My favorite form of memorization is using flash cards. The purpose of using flash cards is the repetition of the process. When I study using flash cards I read the definitions of the terms or phrases that I am trying to memorize, and then I try to remember the term or phrase that they go with. I repeat this system over and over again until finally I can go through all of the terms and respond with the proper definition.
